Enabling small-scale farmers: Lessons from Senegal
How US development assistance influences local capacity for climate change adaptation
Senegalese farmers have improved food security through the Feed the Future initiative and they perceive introduced techniques such as conservation farming as important for increasing yield. However, they do not yet understand their role in adapting to climate change impacts.
Local and national institutions also lack relevant climate change information, such as weather forecasting, that could inform development plans.
This brief includes recommendations for Feed the Future and other donor initiatives to improve small-scale farmers' knowledge and ability to adapt to climate change.
