Institutional Sustainability of Smallholder Water Systems for Productive Use
An examination of the sustainability of smallholder irrigation systems supported by Oxfam in Ethiopia, and recommendations for sustainable management.
The primary goal of this research is to examine the institutional sustainability of smallholder water systems supported by Oxfam America in Ethiopia, with particular emphasis on the use of water in crop production. Oxfam America has been supporting such interventions since 2009, in conjunction with partner organizations. Oxfam America provides financial and coordinating support for interventions that enhance smallholder access to water for irrigation, while the partners provide the technical expertise required to implement the interventions. The partners work closely with the smallholder beneficiaries to ensure they receive the technical support and training required to operate water lifting or diversion devices and produce irrigated crops successfully.
