Sustainability Study of Savings Groups Program in Cambodia
This study examines a number of Cambodian savings groups that were part of savings-led microfinance initiatives launched by Oxfam America, CARE, and Pact, and seeks to understand the sustainability of groups once an implementing agency withdraws support.
Savings-led microfinance has become an increasingly widespread tool to provide financial access to those who have limited access to other financial services. With millions of people enrolled in savings-led microfinance programs across developing nations, there has been increased focus on the sustainability of these groups and how to ensure that they remain active after implementing agencies phase out support. The outcome of this study contributes to the growing literature on savings-led microfinance by examining savings groups to identify the relationships between a number of factors and the groups’ sustainability.
This is an evaluation of our Saving for Change Program (SfC).
