Congressional budget proposals constitute ‘calculated moves to further entrench inequality’ — Oxfam

By

In reaction to budget resolutions released by the House and Senate, Oxfam America President & CEO Abby Maxman said:

“This week, Senate and House Republicans unveiled budget proposals to implement the Trump administration’s agenda—one ultimately designed to give massive handouts to billionaires and mega-corporations at the expense of ordinary families. These proposals, while distinct in focus, both pave the way for trillions in tax cuts that will overwhelmingly benefit the ultra-wealthy and for the gutting of essential programs like health care and food assistance. Additionally, the bills provide funding for increased policing and border wall construction rather than addressing our broken immigration system, threaten vital climate programs for low- and middle-income families, and give Big Oil and Gas a blank check to further fuel the climate crisis, a lethal driver of hunger and humanitarian crises. These are shameful, calculated moves to further entrench inequality, harming the most marginalized among us alongside massive giveaways to the ultra-rich.

“President Trump has made it clear: he’s a president of and for billionaires. He’s pushing a slash and burn political agenda that prioritizes the ultra-wealthy at the expense of everyone else, while letting the world's richest man, Elon Musk, wield unprecedented power over our democratic institutions as the head of DOGE. These ruthless budget plans are just another example of how the Trump administration sacrifices the well-being of ordinary Americans to empower and enrich the billionaire class.”
