Ruling in USAID case proves ‘Trump administration is not above the law’ — Oxfam

By

In reaction to Judge Ali’s ruling to order the Trump administration to pay all invoices and drawdown requests for foreign assistance work completed prior to the entry of the temporary restraining order, Abby Maxman, Oxfam America President and CEO, released the following statement:

“The Trump administration is not above the law. Not only are its actions to dismantle USAID illegal and cruel, but its failure to abide by the rule of law and reinstate humanitarian funding, as ordered by Judge Ali, is causing even more chaos and putting the lives of millions of the world’s poorest and most marginalized people in further jeopardy. Today’s ruling is a clear rejection of the administration's false claims that it's ‘humanitarian waivers’ are adequate to keep life-saving aid flowing and abide by the law.

“We count on all humanitarian funding and all USAID staff to be fully reinstated immediately; the stop-work orders and the funding freeze are already having life or death consequences for millions around the world. The Trump administration must demonstrate that it will preserve the rule of law and must abide by the court’s ruling to ensure prompt payment of all humanitarian assistance funds.”
